What is Kigurumi?

Kigurumi (着ぐるみ) is a unique form of masked cosplay blending the real world with stylization of fiction. The primary component is the kigurumi mask itself, a mascot-like mask that covers the face and head typically in an anime style. Often combined with a hadatai skinsuit, kigurumi results in a unique mascot-like form of cosplay.

What is Animegao?

Animegao is an old translation artifact dating back to early web translations regarding the term Kigurumi. Specifically the phrasing of "anime-faced" masks was confused to be a unique term for Kigurumi masks themselves, animegao. A once translation mistake in the west, it has become its own sub-genre of Kigurumi embracing stylizations unique to western mask makers.
